Description: Rip and encode CDs with one command
Jack is a command-line CD ripper: it extracts audio from a CD,
encodes it using an external encoder and augments it with metadata
from various sources. There is nearly no way that an incomplete rip
goes unnoticed, e.g. jack compares WAV and encoded file sizes when
continuing from a previous run, and it checks your hard disk space
 before doing anything.
 .
Ripping is done with cdparanoia. Encoding to Ogg/Vorbis, FLAC, MP3
or M4A/AAC is supported through the oggenc, flac, lame and fdkaac
encoders, and lossless files can be transcoded to lossy formats.
 .
Metadata is looked up on MusicBrainz, freedb and gnudb, and tagging
is compatible with MusicBrainz Picard (id3v2, Vorbis comments, FLAC
and MP4 tags). Album art can be downloaded from the Cover Art
Archive, iTunes and Discogs and embedded in the resulting files.
 .
Jack is different from other such tools in a number of ways:
  - it is very configurable
  - it doesn't need X
  - it can "rip" virtual CD images like the ones created by cdrdao
  - cdparanoia's status information is displayed and archived for
all tracks, so you can see if something went wrong
  - it uses sophisticated disk space management, i.e. it schedules
its ripping/encoding processes depending on available space
  - it can resume work after it has been interrupted; if all tracks
have been ripped, it doesn't even need the CD anymore
  - it can repair the table of contents of old rips that still list
    a trailing data track
